PlaceBound focuses on the works of six LA-based artists who use mapping techniques as a creative strategy to translate their experiences of place. Implying that boundaries are arbitrary and flexible, these artists utilize mapping in different ways. Art is located in real and imaginary experiences, and documented through drawings, tracings, sculptures, photographs, film, textiles, maps and tours. These investigations take up narratives of geography, memory and dislocation in the production of images revealing to us aspects of our surroundings that would otherwise have been left out or kept unnoticed. PlaceBound was organized spatially taking into account scale and multiple points of views - from micro to macro, social to aesthetic, local to global. Curatorial statement PDF
